LG has launched the Magna in India for Rs. 16,500. The phone was announced at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in Barcelona this February. The device has 5 inch screen with a 720p display. This gives a decent pixel density of 294 PPI. It runs on a Mediatek MT 6582 processor and is packed with 1 GB RAM. The phone comes with 8 GB of internal memory but has a microSD card slot. The slot supports cards up to 32 GB.
In terms of camera, the rear one has an 8 Megapixel sensor which is capable of recording HD videos. It also has a 5 Megapixel camera on the front. The device runs on a decent 2540 mAh battery. The phone is shipped with Android 5.0 (Lollipop). With the G2, LG started to place physical buttons on the back of the phone and the Magna too follows this tradition. The launch of the device comes on the day when LG will be unveiling their latest flagship, the G4. The G4 is the successor to the G3 and is expected to have top of the end specifications.
For the specs we think the phone is overpriced. For Rs. 12,999 one can get the Xiaomi Mi 4i which has a battery display, more storage and higher RAM. It’s high time that LG rethinks their pricing strategy in India. Even last year they released phones like the L Fino, L Bello and G3 Stylus which seemed overpriced. India is a price conscious market and most companies are pricing their devices. So if LG wants to be in the smartphone race then it has to get its pricing right.
