LG has officially launched the much awaited Optimus Black handset here in India. The phone, an Android 2.2 based device will join the likes of the iPhone 3GS, Google Nexus S and the Galaxy S i9003 in the fight for the best sub 20k phone. If you are looking forward to purchase an affordable, decently spec’d handset for fewer than 20k, your options just got tougher
The launch of the Optimus Black comes almost two months after the Optimus 2X was launched here. Back then, it was thought that the device would be priced at around the Rs.25k mark.
The Optimus Black can be termed a “poor” cousin of its dual core sibling, the Optimus 2X. This phone comes with an ARM Cortex A8 processor running at 1Ghz coupled with 512 MB of RAM. The 480*800 pixel IPS display also has a gorilla glass covering. The phone as mentioned earlier runs Android 2.2. However, the phone is slated to get Gingerbread sometime in July.
On the imaging front, there is the 5 megapixel camera at the rear coupled with the 2 megapixel one at the front for video chats. The phone also has a 1500mAh Li-Ion battery that will offer up to six hours of talk time.
The price of the device has been set at Rs.19,990, pushing it just below the 20k mark.
