LG finally decided it was time they bought it flagship Android powered handset to India – a good three months after its international release which happened back in November 2012. The Android 4.1.2 JellyBean toting handset features a 4.7 inch WXGA HD IPUS Plus display. The high PPI density of 326 on the 1280*768 pixel display will ensure that whatever you see on the display would look gorgeous. That said, there are newer devices out there that boast of much higher PPI count – the HTC One for example.
Powering the LG Optimus G is the tried and tested Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro Quad Core SoC (APQ8064) that trundles along at 1.5 Ghz when required. Taking care of the graphics bit is the Adreno 320 GPU. All said, let us also remind you that Qualcomm’s next generation chips – the Snapdragon 600 and the 800 are already here. But hey, the S4 Pro is not a slouch by any means. Also, we expect devices based on the 800 and the 600 to be priced much higher than the Optimus G. Lest we forget, the phone gets 2GB of RAM which we presume is more than sufficient in todays age.
While the rest of the world seems to be starting to move away from the megapixel wars, LG seems to be in no mood to relent. The Optimus G packs in a 13 megapixel sensor under its thin frame. There is no doubt about the fact that this handset would be able to capture above average pictures – but we feel its time LG too start innovating more as the rest of the pack seem to have moved beyond the usual more megapixel = more quality rut. The camera can also capture full HD videos and has a host of options that you would expect to find in a device of this class. The Optimus G packs in 32 GB of internal memory which cannot be expanded further.
The 2100 mAH battery inside the Optimus G is non-removable and does claim a bunch of innovations to its credit. These include the increased charging cycle of 800 which is considerable more than the usual 500 cycle battery that most smartphones have today. The battery also boasts of something LG calls the “high density technology” which lets it store more power compared to other similar capacity batteries.
The Optimus G has been priced at Rs. 34,500 officially however we learn that the device would eb sold for a much lesser price in the market. In a few weeks, we expect the price to settle down further and the device would be on par with the Samsung Galaxy S III.
We hope to dole out a full fledged review of this beauty once we get a hands on of the device. In the meantime watch out for our hands-on and a quick review video on our YouTube Channel
