News is that something super-smart is brewing in the LG Electronics stable. And no, its not a smart television this time. Instead LG is developing a new smartphone, that will be its first to feature a quad-core processor and a camera with over 10 megapixels resolution.
With this new flagship smartphone, LG plans to take on its rival Asian giants such as Samsung and HTC, who have done fairly well in gaining traction in the overseas market with their Galaxy S and One line of smartphones respectively.
The new smartphone is being built to the direct specification of Koo Bon-moo, Chairman of LG Electronics. One of Koo’s major input is that the new device will be built from the parts manufactured by their subsidiaries LG Display, LG Chem and LG Innotek, reports The Chosunilbo.
It is said that, Koo had pointed out his disappointment last year, as the mobile-making arm did not make enough use of parts manufactured by LG’s subsidiaries, even when the same are used by a range of players in the mobile market, including U.S based iPhone manufacturer Apple.
Besides the development of the yet-unnamed device, LG has been aggressively working towards regaining the market-share, which it has lost to Samsung and HTC. This was evident when LG released its Optimus LTE 2, just a day after Samsung launched its much anticipated Galaxy S III. With the opportunity to differentiate between handsets from manufacturers thinning by the day, shipping handsets with the latest Android versions and upgrading the current fleet has acquired prominence between the manufacturers. And LG has also picked up the mantra by releasing the L5 & L7 with Android 4.0 ICS at entry and budget level.
