If your first generation Windows Phone was dying for some “Mango” Flavor, here’s good News. Microsoft has fulfilled its promise and now the Windows Phone 7.5 update is available to all previous WP7 handsets.
Quite recently, Microsoft was literally handing out free first gen Phones if you spent US $499 at any of their flagship stores in US. The move had seemed bad & Microsoft was blamed for “cleansing” out their inventory & speculations that Microsoft does have the cash to pull off a stunt like this.
Through a post on the Windows Phone blog, Microsoft’s Eric Hautala, General Manager of Customer Experience Engineering said
“We’re now delivering Mango to 100% of eligible phones around the world, regardless of carrier.” (In other words, to everything that’s not listed as “scheduling” or “testing” on Where’s My Phone Update?).
The phones, which were once considered junk, can now rejoice with more than 500 innovations that the Mango update brings. The phones which are scheduled to receive this are: LG Quantum, the HTC HD7, the Dell Venue Pro, and the HTC Surround.
Microsoft will definitely up the ante in the coming weeks with the upcoming fleet of WP7 handsets in Nokia colors. Though on the wane, Nokia still has a strong hold in a lot of countries and it will be interesting to see how much traction the Windows Phone platform will be able to gain with this sudden surge of handsets from Nokia’s garage.
Have you already updated the Windows Phone to its Mango flavor?
