Motorola has sent out invites for an event on 4th september 2014 held in Chicago. The invites which were in a Cootie Catcher format revealed a phone with a G, another one with an X, a watch and a bluetooth headset. So basically Moto has teased the public with very obvious hints.
Moto G2 — The Moto G which was priced at Rs. 12,499 became one of the most sold phones in that price range. If the Moto E was too average and the X too costly, the G was your best bet. With reasonable specs and good build quality, it was worth the money. Its successor which will mostly be named the G2, is rumoured to have a larger 5 inch display as compared to the 4.5 inches one the Moto G (albeit with the same 720p resolution, reportedly). It will also spot a better 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front facing one — a welcome improvement since the camera on the original was weak, to say the least. The phone will be powered with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor and is likely to be shipped with Android 4.4 KitKat. Bottom line — not that big a change, but the improved camera will certainly help it compete better to the ASUS Zenfone 5 and the like.
Moto X+1 – The Moto X received a lot of criticism for offering very average specs for a high-end phone. But then when Moto priced it at just Rs. 24,000 people changed their perception. Obviously it didn’t match up to the Galaxy S4 or Nexus 5 in specs but all in all it was a good phone. The phone also received a lot of praise as to how it felt in the hand; a rarity nowadays where every other Android phones feels like a tile to hold. The Moto X will most likely have a bigger 5.2 inch display. But people are expecting the phone to still look almost the same in size. Other notable specs bumps would be a more powerful Snapdragon 800 or 801 processor, a better camera and a bigger battery. It is also said that it will come with even more customisable backplate options.
Moto 360 – Moto 360 is one of the most anticipated wearables. Much of this is owed to it being the only smartwatch with a round display, so it looks more like a normal wrist watch. It is touted to have an LCD screen covered with Gorilla Glass 3. The watch will be resistant in water up to 3.3 feet for up to 30 minutes and will compatible with most devices running Android 4.3 or later. An ambient light sensor and Bluetooth 4.0 Low Energy would be its standard features.
Moto Headset – This may just big the surprise element of the launch as not much has been heard or written about it. It will be awesome if it can respond to the “OK Google Now” command like the Moto X.
So mark the date people and expect a lot from this event — after all Moto has resurrected and how! With Samsung sales on a downslide this may just be Moto’s best chance to regain the respect it commanded during the dawn of the cell phone.
