After months of waiting, Motorola Milestone users in India can now update their handsets to Android 2.2, also known as Froyo update. The update has been put on Motorola’s website and users can update their handsets by connecting them to their computers (sorry, no over the air updates unfortunately). The Android 2.2 update will give a number of enhancements to the handset, but comes to the phone long after most phones of Milestone’s time have already moved onto Froyo – in fact, the update comes amidst reports that Froyo is the most widely used version of Android.
Coming to the update, the Froyo-flavoured Milestone will now support Adobe Flash 10.1 and improved Web browsing. It promises improved security with remote wipe and device lock. Froyo’s wi-fi hotspot creation feature also comes to the Milestone with this update. Google backup and Restore will help keep settings and applications along with better wi-fi connectivity, new shortcuts, easy switching between eight most recently used apps, and the option to save apps on SD card. The update can only be done by connecting the phone to a computer running Windows (XP, 2000, Vista or 7) and can be downloaded from here .
The Motorola site warns that if the user has a Google account running on the phone, a Google auto sync will have be run again manually. A small price for a long awaited update. Yes, we are downloading it.
When can we expect the same for the Motorola Defy? I’m growing old waiting…
