It seems that the Nokia deal is all that Microsoft can boast of at MWC this year. We aren’t seeing any great update to WP7 at MWC, nor any show stopping hardware release for the platform. Add to that, there are sentiments reflecting that Windows Phone 7 is slow / late.
We aren’t surprised that Motorola has given a comment that doesn’t show much optimism for Windows Phone 7. After all its fighting a patent battle with Microsoft over its smartphones. But then there are words that would certainly pierce through Redmond’s heart. Corporate VP of software and services product management, Christy Wyatt commented “there were a bunch of things that we believed about Microsoft that ended up not being true, mostly about what functionality it would have in what period of time.”
While Motorola is concentrated on Windows Phone 7, another smartphone maker Acer who has previously hinted towards Windows Phone 7 has shown lesser interest now. Acer has had a great relationship with Microsoft on smartphones but all their recent releases are Android and it would remain so for now. WP7 is being played with at a engineering level by Acer but nothing to announce for now. No renewed promises / claims. In short, they are waiting for some momentum with WP7 as a platform / ecosystem.
