Last year, HMD Global had debuted the Nokia 6 smartphone in China in January to mark the re-entry of the Nokia brand in the smartphone world. Today, the company has officially unveiled the second-generation Nokia 6 smartphone as a successor device. It has arrived with a refreshed design and upgraded innards.
Design and Display
The unibody chassis of the 2018 edition of the Nokia 6 that measures 148.8 x 75.8 x 8.6 mm is made of out of series-6000 aluminum. The weight of the handset is 172 grams. Compared to last year’s Nokia 6, its successor has arrived with a slightly compact, thicker and heavier chassis. It comes in two color variants: Black and Silver. The rear panel of the phone has been redesigned as it features a Nokia 5-like camera module and a fingerprint scanner.
The Nokia 6 2nd generation phone has a 5.5-inch IPS LCD display. Compared to the original model, the new Nokia 6 has reduced bezels around the display. It supports the conventional aspect ratio of 16:9 and delivers a Full HD screen resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels. To protect the display, the Finnish firm has placed it under the layer of 2.5D Corning Gorilla Glass 3.
Chipset, RAM and Software
The Snapdragon 630 chipset that powers the Nokia 7 is present under the hood of the Nokia 6 2nd generation smartphone. The 32 GB and 64 GB storage variants of the smartphone respectively feature 4 GB of RAM. For additional storage, users can make use of the hybrid dual SIM to add a microSD card.
The fast charging feature on the phone will allow users to charge 3,000mAh battery of the smartphone to 50 percent in just 30 minutes. The Android 7.1 Nougat in its purest form is available pre-installed on the smartphone. However, the company has assured that it will be soon upgraded to Android Oreo.
Camera and Other Features
The rear camera of the Nokia 6 (2018) is of 16-megapixel. The f/2.0 aperture lens is equipped with features like dual-LED flash and PDAF. For shooting selfies, HMD Global has included an 84-degree wide-angle lens of 8-megapixel with f/2.0 aperture. The Bothie camera feature that allows users to simultaneously use the front and rear cameras to snap photos or videos is also available on the second-generation edition of Nokia 6.
The OZO Audio feature makes use of the spatial dual microphones of the phone to record 360-degree surround sound. It provides users with connectivity options like 4G VoLTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 5.0, GPS, USB-C and 3.5mm audio jack. HMD Global include support for NFC in the original Nokia 6 phone. However, the official listing of the Nokia 6 2nd generation has no mentioning of NFC.
Pricing and Market Release
The 32 GB Nokia 6 2nd generation carries a price tag of 1,499 Yuan (~Rs. 14,650) in China. Its 64 GB model costs 1,699 Yuan (~Rs. 16,600). Both the storage models are available for reservations on China’s Suning retailer site. The shipments of the smartphone will begin in the country on Jan. 10.
As of this writing, there is no news on Indian release for the Nokia 6 (2018). Just as the original Nokia 6 had arrived in India in August last year. There is a possibility that the country will release its second-generation around the same time this year.
