Yes, you read that right! Now Sandisk has come up with a USB memory drive rightly called the Memory Vault, which would save you data for over 100 years. The Memory Vault is being promoted by Sandisk as a solution to save and protect your photos and videos for a long time.
From the looks of it, it seems like a silver biscuit, sufficiently sturdy and sleek in design, yet not pleasing to the eye. Sadly, it has a USB 2.0 port for data transfer, which I’m sure by the end of this decade would be an outdated technology. Besides the design, Sandisk Memory vault has no moving parts and hence it has low chances of failure unlike an HDD or even a CD which can easily get scratched and thus spoiled.
Though I must say that obviously there is no way that we in our life times can verify Sandisk’s hundred years claims. Hence, I suppose we would have to rely on their proprietary Chronolock technology and complex “accelerated temperature cycling” tests which prove the longevity of the device.
The device is available in 8GB and 16GB versions attractively priced at $49.99 and $89.99 respectively. Though I seriously doubt whether 16GB of memory for your family’s photos and videos will last you anywhere close to even a decade, forget century.
