The website of India’s elite National Security Guards (NSG) is suspected to have been hacked by some miscreants if we are to believe a Hindustan Times report. Unlike the “normal” hacking process where the homepage tends to be defaced, this one seems to be slightly more serious with officials suspecting that there was siphoning of data from the website.
Apparently, email ID’s tied to the domain have been compromised and as a precautionary measure all email passwords used by NSG officials have been reset. Investigations are already underway and it seems the attacks have been traced to outside India.
No one has come forward to claim responsibility for these attacks as yet. This is quite unlike “normal” hackers who usually tend to deface the page, claim responsibility and also inform who they are. Indian government websites managed by NIC have been a favourite target for most anti-India hackers since quite some time. In the not too distant past, hacker group Anonymous had hacked the website if India’s premier investigations agency, the CBI as well.
As for the NSG, if you are still not aware about it, this is country’s premier anti-terror, commando unit which most famously helped nail terrorists in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks.
