It definitely is a day for mobile cricket games, given the fact that we discovered that Stick Cricket had made its way to the App Store earlier today. In terms of timing, though, this would match the half-hearted slash by an Aussie tailender. With the Ashes all but decided (yep, England finished their drubbing of Ponting’s men today at the MCG), and only one Test Match left in the series, we have now received news that JumpGames has released the official mobile game for the Ashes. A bit late, you might say (and we would agree), but hopefully it will be a case of better late than never, given what the game promises. The terrific thing is that the game, titled Ashes Cricket, is available across ALL major platforms, including iOS, Android, BlackBerry, J2ME and BREW, which means that most people can have a stab at it.As can be guessed, the game will let you play as either England or Australia and has official player names, so no more messing around with “Sanderson”, “Counting” and “Swamm,” as you have to do in less than official game versions. There is a special Live Cam view that promises to give a (press release alert!) “real life experience of enhanced batting, bowling and fielding controls and different game modes that make this game ‘easy to pick up but hard to put down’” Unlike Stick Cricket, here you can bat, bowl and field, which should provide a more wholesome cricket experience. It does come at a price though – we saw price tags of $2.99 at the App Store, $4.99 at the BlackBerry App World and Rs 135.12 at the Android Market. Is it worth it? We will be playing it and giving you our take in a few days.
