With less than a fortnight to go for cricket’s most prestigious tournament, the 2011 ICC World Cup, Zapak Games has released the official videogame for the tournament. Titled Cricket Power, the game has been made exclusively for the PC (we can hear groans from the console crowd already). The press release makes the usual mention of “all the on-pitch drama, intensity and excitement of fiercely competitive international cricket,” but what really interests us is the fact that the game will come with all the official team and player names and kits, and follows the official World Cup schedule.
Yes, the pack shot that we have seen does not seem to indicate that the game will have cutting-edge graphics on the line of a FIFA or a Pro Evo videogame, but our sources at Zapak assure us that the strength of the game will be its accessibility and gameplay rather than mere eye candy – we can live with that really, considering the steeeeeep learning curve that the likes of Brian Lara Cricket and EA Cricket had. Top that off with a price tag of just Rs 299 (very low for a new title) and we must concede that we are nodding in approval. The game is expected to be available in stores in the third week of February (around the time the tournament gets underway) and will also available for download from Zapak’s website. We will let you know whether it clean bowled us when we get a review copy. Until then, we are marking our guard.
good game
