We have got our hands on the latest Android handset from Sony Ericsson, the Xperia X8. Yes, it runs Android 1.6, but at Rs 13,990, a 3 inch touchscreen and 3.2 MP camera is not too serious a deal, especially when one considers Sony’s overlays on the Android interface, particularly the social network friendly Timescape. Anyway, here are the unboxing pics. Stay tuned for a review.
The Sony Ericsson X8 box. We got a slightly stained one. The real one is much more snow white. The box is a bit on the thick side, considering some of the slim ones we have seen from Nokia.
And the box opens to reveal the Xperia X8. No, we did not exactly catch our breath in amazement – it seems a solid rather than a spectacular device.
Opening the box a layer further reveals more about its innards. We have a charger with a USB cable, headset and interestingly some very colourful back panels.
We have taken everything out of the box, and here we are: colourful back panels, the charger, the USB cable (which plugs into the charger and also doubles up as a data cable), the headset, and the manuals, one of which is in red. Let us take a look at those panels again, shall we?
And here are those panels. If you think that the Xperia X8 looks unattractive, these panels will sure jazz it up. Speaking of the X8, let’s take a gander at that phone, shall we?
That is the Xperia X 8, up close. It is compact enough, although at 15mm, it is a bit on the thick side. As expected, the 3 inch touchscreen dominates the front. We like the fact that Sony Ericsson has placed metallic buttons below the screen – so much easier to punch and well, they are easier on the eye as well. At 104 grams, it is relatively light for a device that seems thick.
The side of the Xperia X8, with the volume rocker and the dedicated camera button (well, it is a Sony!).
…and the other side of the Xperia 8, absolutely clean. Typical neat Sony Ericsson finish. Who else could make a 15mm thick phone look good from the side?
Finally, the back of the Xperia X8. Again, a remarkably clean finish here. We have the 3.2 MP camera here. No flash, but comfortable to hold. Yes, we are changing the back panel, folks!
They provide you with so many changeable covers. iLike 🙂
