Opera Releases new versions of Opera Mini, Opera Mobile Browsers

It was just three weeks ago that Opera released a new version of its Opera Mini browser for Android devices. It’s now time for Opera to announce new versions of the browser for other platforms as well. Apart from Opera Mini, Opera has also updated its full-fledged browser, Opera Mobile for a few of these platforms. Opera Mini6.5 is now available on Symbian, iOS and BlackBerry operating systems.

Opera also announced an updated version for devices supporting Java applications. As for Opera Mobile, the new versions make its debut on Symbian, MeeGo and Maemo platforms as well.

Opera had decided to adopt a common, universal look for all its mobile browsers since 2010 and on first glance; it would be difficult to notice any significant changes in the new versions of the browser. Most of the changes however are inside.

As for the new features, the most significant addition to these new versions is the new data counter embedded within the browser. This counter lets the user track the amount of data that the browser uses. Apart from that it also lets you know how much data it manages to save while using Opera Mini or Opera Mobile with its turbo browsing mode switched on.

I bet you might be already aware that Opera Mini by default compresses all web traffic that goes through it using its own servers resulting in faster browsing speeds and lesser data transfers involved in the entire process. This eventually ends up as a huge money saver for someone who is on a pay as you go data plan for example.

Other features common to all the platforms include support for auto correct and spell check. A long desired feature was an option for autocomplete option while doing Google searches. The browser also gets a quick book mark button that lets you bookmark a page quickly by clicking on the star icon. Users would also be able to search from within the address bar.

As expected, the new version gets quite a few updates in terms of overall stability and performance.

To download these new versions of the browser, head to http://mobile.opera.com and follow the onscreen instructions.
