Oppo had launched the Oppo F3 and F3 Plus smartphones earlier this year. After several weeks of leaks, Oppo has finally announced the selfie-focused Oppo F5 with improved features at a launch event in Philippines.
Design and Display
The Oppo F5 sports a plastic body and a full screen design along with a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner. It measures 156.5 x 76 x 7.5mm and its weight is 152 grams. It comes in color options such as black, gold and red.
The smartphone is fitted with a 6-inch TFT screen that produces FHD+ resolution of 2,160 x 1,080 pixels and an aspect ratio of 18:9. The Oppo F3 Plus also features a 6-inch display. However, the Oppo F5 features the same-sized screen is a smaller device than F3 Plus.
Camera
Since the Oppo F5 is touted as a “Selfie Expert” phone by the company, it features a 20-megapixel selfie camera that is driven by artificial intelligence. It has a large 1/2.8-inch image sensor with f/2.0 aperture. The selfie snapper can accentuate the appeal of the face by enhancing more than 200 areas on the face such as eyes, nose, jawline and so on to create perfect selfie shots. It is also equipped with beauty-iris tool that can brighten up the eyes in any shot. The selfie camera of the Oppo F5 can shoot amazing portrait shots by blurring the background artificially.
There is a 16-megapixel camera with f/1.8 aperture residing on the back panel of the Oppo F5. It is equipped with an LED flash and phase detection autofocus (PDAF).
Performance and Other Features
The Oppo F5 is driven by MediaTek Helio P23 chipset. The 4 GB RAM variant of the smartphone features 32 GB of storage. Its 6 GB RAM model has 64 GB of storage. Both the variants feature a dedicated microSD card slot for additional storage. It includes a 3,200mAh battery.
For connectivity, the Oppo F5 is enabled with features like 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, v4.2 Bluetooth, GPS, microUSB port and dual-SIM support. The handset is preinstalled with Android 7.1 Nougat that is customized by ColorOS 3.2 skin by Oppo. The smartphone also includes a face scanning. However, the Chinese manufacturer claims that it is not as secure as the fingerprint scanner.
Pricing and Availability
The pre-orders of Oppo F5 phone with 4 GB of RAM + 32 GB of storage have already started in Philippines with a price tag of 15,990 PHP (~Rs. 20,000). The 4 GB RAM variant comes in gold and black colour options. The 6 GB RAM model can be availed in red color, but its pricing has not been announced yet. The sales of Oppo F5 will begin in the country starting from this week. As far as its arrival in India is concerned, it is scheduled to get unveiled on Nov. 2.
