Speculations speculations! Ever since HP decided to hive off its WebOS operations, we have heard of literally everything under the sun regarding its future prospects. From being given away to Amazon (which came up with its own Android based tablet, the Kindle Fire) to even Samsung considering its purchase.
A few months later, we now have yet another report that names Amazon (yet again) amongst the list of prospective buyers interested in WebOS. Others in the list include the likes of Research in Motion, Oracle IBM and Intel Corp.
HP is being advised by Bank of America Merrill Lynch as to how the company should recoup the $1.2b investment that they put in on acquiring WebOS which back then analysts had said, was an expensive foray in to the extremely competitive smartphone segment.
As expected, the gamble didn’t play out as well as HP would have liked it to and just a year later the company’s new CEO Leo Apotheker decided to hive the WebOS division off along with HP’s Personal Systems Group.
According to a fresh report by Reuters, many players are still interested in getting hold of WebOS mainly due to the huge number of patents that the platform would gift them. The report however also states that HP if it manages to sell the platform should not expect to get even the $1.2 billion price that it paid for acquiring Palm Inc.
