Yes you read that right! So in Belgrade when people run out of battery they have the option to head to this innovative solar powered mobile battery station located on the street called the Strawberry Tree. Milos Milisavljevic, conceived this idea when he was just 17 and has manged to create it at the age of 22 along with a group of students from his college in the Obrenovac district.
The charging station has 16 ports to support different handsets and charges the handsets in flat 10 to 15 mins. The station also has a backup in the form of built in batteries which can keep the station up and running for a month at least. With this feature of the Strawberry Tree, I cant help but imagine how useful it would be to implement the same in the developing cities in India, where frequent power cuts is a common phenomena or maybe even implement the same in villages.
The Strawberry tree had managed a staggering 10,000 charging sessions just within 40 days of its introduction, which comes to around ten charges per hour. But here’s the best part, the charging at these stations doesn’t cost you a single penny as the founder believes that it would be unethical to charge people as the charging is virtually done for free using solar energy. He aims to inspire people to be responsible in the use of energy and promote the use of renewable energy resources in the future via Strawberry Energy NGO.
