After being acquired by HP, it was expected that Palm would come up with a successor to the Original Palm Pre in rather quick time. However, it seems HP had a lot of work to do at Palm before they start off with new products. Anyway, that phase seems to be over with Palm officially unveiling the Pre 2 earlier today
The Pre 2 has been in the news for the past week or so, and we had some inkling regarding the kind of specs it could come with. Now that things are official, let us reveal to you the specs of the new Pre 2.
Palm has stuck to the original design of the first generation Pre – albeit making it a bit sleeker. What’s different is in the insides. The Pre 2 would use a 1 gigahertz processor has a 5-megapixel camera. It would also run WebOS 2, the first prime update to the original WebOS that first surfaced back in 2009.
WebOS 2.0 would build upon the capabilities of WebOS and would support enhance multitasking abilities. It would also support Flash 10.1 (the only other smart phone platform after Android to support it).
Visually though there isn’t much of a difference observed. The OS is expected to be at least twice as fast as the old OS – a fact that is bought about by the faster processor and software tweaks. WebOS 2 also brings in the “Just Type” feature that is nothing but the old “Universal Search” feature revamped. This of you who were expecting an increase in the resolution of the screen would be in for a major disappointment. Almost two years on, the Pr e 2 still boasts of the same old 3.1 inch display that has a 320×480 HVGA resolution. There is no support for memory expansion as well. Wi-Fi in support too is missing.
The Pre 2 would be launched in France this very weak and would arrive in the US in the next few months on Verizon. Note that the Pre 2 will have two versions – a GSM and another CDMA for networks in the US.
Hoping they have something magical at CES…
i think folks at HP & Palm sud come up with webOS based tablets asap rather than phones…smartphone market is already crowded…while i-pads dont have real competitor till date…and webOS has the potential to take up the fight..!!
