HP has just taken the covers off its latest update to the Palm Pre family in the form of the Pre 3. The Pre 3 brings in all the virtues of the erstwhile Pre devices but adds in a larger, higher resolution display. The slide out keyboard is larger than the one on the Pre 2. The most important update is the much faster 1.4 Ghz Snapdragon processor that the phone sports.
Getting back to the display, it measures 3.6 –inches across making it just slightly larger than the one on the iPhone 4. The screen resolution has been pimped to a generous 480 x 800 pixel taking in on par with most Android handsets out there. It however still falls short of the iPhone 4’s retina display. The phone also packs in 512 MB of RAM. It tips the scales at 156 grams.
The imaging part is taken care of by a decent 5-megapixel camera. This camera also doubles up as a HD Video capturing unit. The Pre 3 would come with 8 or 16 GB of built in memory. Connectivity wise, the Pre 3 is fully equipped to support Wi-Fi b/g/n , Bluetooth and of course, USB. The phone would be available “this summer” in both GSM/HSPA+ and CDMA EVDO versions.
You might have also noticed that HP is slowly dropping the Palm brand.
Palm also had a few other announcements at the ongoing event which we would be talking about in subsequent posts.
Editors Note: Yes we are underwhelmed. Nothing magical here, but webOS is maturing, thats it! As we wait for a hands-on, we hope that the battery life is better than the Pre Plus atleast.
