The PlayBook will have the BlackBerry 10 OS, after the initial launch of BB10 handsets in the last quarter of 2012. If sources are to be believed, the BlackBerry 10 OS is based on the same QNX platform as the current PlayBook OS, which means that the existing owners of PlayBook will definitely benefit from the upgrade.
Rob Orr, RIM’s VP of product management, confirmed this news to TechRadar. He said, “We’ve said publicly a number of times that our first BB10 handset will be available towards the end of 2012, and that’s still firmly the case.” He also added that, “At some point after the launch we’ll bring BB10 to our PlayBooks, yes.”
As of now, RIM is celebrating the success of its impressive percentage uptake on the BlackBerry PlayBook 2.0 software. According to RIM, almost 50% of the PlayBook users installed the new update on the very first day of its release. Seems like the audience is thrilled to finally get email on their tab’s.
BlackBerry 10 will be RIM’s largest step with an attempt to regain market share. According to our sources, the new OS will have deep TAT Cascade integration and widgets. Nonetheless, it will be interesting to see a BlackBerry OS that is multifaceted among multiple devices. Seems like RIM wants to create a balance in the BlackBerry ecosystem across handsets and tablets.
