Quick Review: Motorola Quench XT3

Motorola has joined the low-cost Android phone battle with its Quench XT3 handset. Priced at around Rs 12,500, it offers Android 2.1, a 3.2 inch capacitive touch screen and a 3.2 mega pixel camera. How does it shape up against the Samsung Galaxy 3 and Galaxy 5, the Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 and the LG Optimus? We will let you know in the coming days, but for now, here is how it looked when we popped it out of the box.

The MotoQuench XT3 box – compact and well designed, small enough to be carried extremely comfortably. We like the words “Tap In” and the use of the green-grey shade, which is a welcome change from the routine black and white (and recently, blue) packages seen in some handsets.

Our first glimpse of the Quench, as we pop open the box. It lies swathed in wrapping.

The Quench out, the box shows signs of the usual accomplices – wires and manuals.

The contents of the MotoQuench box – the phone, the manual, the warranty papers, the headset and the charger. No data cable but then one does not actually need them in Android handsets, although we would have liked to have the option to charge the handset from our humble netbook.

Motorola Quench Unboxing

The Quench, divested of all wrapping and screen protector. As with all touchscreen devices, the front is dominated by the 3.2 inch display, with four soft buttons beneath it. We dig the greyish-brown colour of the unit (fed up of black!),  but what we genuinely like are the keys for call receive and end and that trackball, which is quite handy for navigating one’s way around.

One side of the Quench has the USB charging port, which is covered. We like the metallic band running around the side. At 12.6 mm, it is not the slimmest smart phone around, but does not seem too fat either, perhaps because most devices in this segment are a bit on the tubby side.

The other side of the Quench with the volume rocker and hallelujah, a camera button that LOOKS like a camera button – round and easy to press.

And the back of the MotoQuench with a 3.2 MP camera and LED flash. The back has a lovely feel to it, not at all plasticky and is unlikely to get slippery. Lovely build quality.

Please Nimish tell me which version of android its running, because i am seriously thinking of canceling my order. Please help me out here…

  • i read it on the net that the touchscreeen of ths phone is bad. its sluggish and the response is very poor. is it true?

  • I have checked this phone. Touch function is really good in this phone considering the price factor of 13K only. You will not find it as responsive as iPhone, however it is really good. You have to be a little careful if you are switching over from iPhone or any other touch based mobile devices. It takes time getting used to Android.

  • Is it possible on this or an Android to have customizable ‘profiles’, like Nokia phones have? So that say in a meeting, only certain numbers would ring and messages could be on silent etc?

  • Why is this phone same as following phone:
Orange Boston, Gigabyte Gsmart G1305, Apanda A60, Vibo A688, Chinavision Excalibur, Muchtel A1, Wellcom A88, Commtiva Z71, Cincinnati Bell Blaze, Nexian Journey Lounge,…

I read somewhere that all these are chinese phones with different logos.

  • Does it have FM Radio on stock ROM?
In many websites/reviews says that it have FM Radio built in and many others says not.
    Could you confirm that, please?
