RIM has taken all the heat for using the PlayBook tablet only on papers for months and then finally showing its true potential. With plenty of Tablet options available all around, RIM is going to create options for its followers too. As per the insider sources of N4BB, RIM will introduce BlackBerry PlayBook 2 with 10-inch display and slimmer profile around the screen. Having said that, now the 7-inch PlayBook though big for palms, will appear bit small for a tablet.
BlackBerry PlayBook 2 will sport 10-inch display with higher resolution and will run updated version of QNX operating system for the tablet. However, the PlayBook 2 will come in Wi-Fi/Wi-Fi+4G versions only. RIM is decided to drop 3G version entirely which is pretty much sensible. The tablet will have thinner profile around the screen and there by appearing to provide more real-estate to the screen. Most interesting part is that RIM will go Apple way and come with White colored PlayBook 2 just like we have white colored BlackBerry handsets now.
Standard BlackBerry apps like email, calendar, and others will exist along with ability to connect to the BES without using the BlackBerry Bridge. May be it will allow running Android applications better. There were no release dates mentioned but this new tablet can be expected to be shown at this year’s end. Let’s hope RIM shows it by year end and makes it available immediately to the consumers this time.
