The sales of the Blackberry PlayBook have been disappointing to say the least. But if anything could give you the measure of how bad things are with RIM, it’s got to be the $300 cut in the prices of the PlayBook this holiday season.
These are desperate times for the once successful Canadian based smartphone manufacturer, as they try to garner as much sales as possible via heavy discounts of as much as $300 being slashed off its PlayBook prices.
This means that the effective pricing of the 16GB version will be $199.99, $299 for the 32 GB and $399 for the 64 GB versions respectively. The discounted PlayBooks will be available during the holiday season with retailers like Best Buy, Walmart and RadioShack among others.
RIM had sold 50,000 units to retailers in its first quarter which reduced to more than half at 20,000 in its second quarter. Now in the third quarter, RIM is trying hard to get as many units as possible. With hardly any apps, email features or any other appealing features the PlayBook has surely got its work cut out this holiday season.
And if competition from the Apple’s iPad2 wasn’t enough, add to it the much awaited $199 priced Kindle Fire and the chances of PlayBook getting picked off the shelves are minuscule.
