In the recent past, Samsung has been losing out on the legal battle against Apple in the U.S. This was clear when, not only was their plea to uplift the ban on their Galaxy Tab 10.1 was rejected, but also a pre-trial ban was imposed on its Galaxy Nexus line of smartphones.
We already reported last week about how Google was planning to roll out a software patch for Samsung’s Galaxy Nexus device, that is believed to avoid the infringing Apple patent that led to the injunction. A fresh news related to this is, that all the carriers selling Samsung Galaxy S III in United States are receiving an over-the-air update that would disable the local search on the said device. In addition to this, the update also features a brand new radio – ULGC 1.
So far, only Sprint and AT&T have received this update.
This is a smart move undertaken by the South Korean giant, considering the risk at stake. Also the company would not want one of its flagship device, which is doing quite well, suffer in its battle of lawsuits with Apple.
This new update might severe the search functionality for users, but there is a quick-fix available to get around it. According to a forum on XDA-Developers, users can download the old app file for Google Quick Search Box and manually install it, after updating their devices.
