Samsung has announced a new entry into its budget Android powered smartphone range with the introduction of the Galaxy Pocket. The pint sized smartphone is positioned at the other lower end of the price spectrum at the other end of which are the likes of the Galaxy S II and the Galaxy Note.
As for the features on this one, let us start off with the display which is a 2.8 inch unit with a resolution of 240*320 pixels. Under the hood, powering the phone is a single core processor which runs at 832Mhz. At the rear is a 2 megapixel camera which can double up as a video camera as well.
The Galaxy Pocket comes with 3GB of internal memory which you can expand further using micro SD cards. Connectivity options are pretty much covered with Bluetooth and Wi-Fi.
The phone runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread with little chances of it getting an update to Android 4.0. (That’s a little too much to expect from an entry level handset, no?) As expected, it comes loaded with Samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz UI and also gets Samsung’s chat service ChatON as well as integrated social networking features.
The Galaxy Pocket weighs in at just 97 grams and is quite diminutive in size. The device would be made available later this year in select markets at an unannounced price.
