When Samsung announced its much talked about Galaxy Gear smart watch earlier this year, there was only one device that supported it. The Galaxy Note 3 which was launched along with the Gear. Samsung had however promised that it would update its older devices to be compatible with the Gear – and that is what Samsung officially announced earlier today.
The company earlier today issued a press release confirming that the Galaxy Gear would be supported on six new devices after undergoing a software update. Its flagship handset – the Galaxy S4 has already received the update. The six new devices that have been added to the supported list include the Galaxy S3, Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S4 mini, Galaxy Mega 5.8 and the Galaxy S4 Zoom. All these handsets would get the aforementioned update this very month.
“The Galaxy Gear is designed and optimized for use with other Galaxy devices to create a seamless experience for our users. Extending the Galaxy Gear compatibility to six Galaxy devices reflects our commitment to delivering more Samsung smartphone users with enhanced flexibility and freedom, thus enriching their mobile experience,” said Vineet Taneja, Country Head, Mobiles at Samsung Electronics.
In India, the Galaxy Gear is available for Rs. 22,990/-. The Galaxy S4 Mini, Galaxy Mega 5.8, Galaxy S3, Galaxy S4 zoom, Galaxy Note II, Galaxy S4 and Galaxy Note 3 are all priced between Rs. 23,500/- to Rs 49,900/-.
So now that all these devices have added supported for the Galaxy Gear, are you inclined towards getting any of these devices bundled with the smartwatch?
