South Korean electronics giant Samsung has announced yet another Android powered high end smartphone earlier today. Christened the Galaxy Grand, this one happens to sport a huge 5 inch display – and runs Android 4.1.2.
To make it affordable though, Samsung has put in a lower resolution display on this device which has a resolution of just 480*800 pixels. That’s pretty low for a phone with a 5 inch display, I would say.
Under the hood, you will find 1.2GHz dual-core processor supported by ample – 1GB RAM and 8GB of internal storage. The phone supports microSD cards as well so that you’d never fall short of memory/ The phone also gets comprehensive connectivity options that include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n (2.4GHz), Wi-Fi HT40, USB 2.0, Bluetooth 4.0 + LE, A-GPS, Glonass and DLNA. Powering all this potent hardware is a 2100 mAH battery that should be good enough to power this one for an entire day worth of use.
Taking care of the imaging capabilities of the phone is a 8-megapixel rear camera and a 2-megapixel front camera capable. The rear camera can take videos in full HD resolution while the front camera does the same at 720p.
The handset runs Android 4.1.2 and obviously runs Samsung’s customised touchwiz UI. Now, note that there would be two versions of the handset with one variant boasting of dual SIM capability.
Samsung is yet to reveal pricing details about the Galaxy Grand series. We hope they price it under 15k in India wherein they would be able to compete with Micromaxes and Karbonn Mobiles of the world – both of which offer decently spec’d Android handsets with similarly sized displays.
