The hardware used in the Samsung Galaxy J1 is nothing out of the ordinary. The Galaxy J1 comes with dual-SIM functionality and runs Android KitKat . It uses a 4.3-inch (480×800 pixels) WVGA TFT display and is powered by a dual-core 1.2GHz processor coupled with 512MB of RAM. It has 4GB of inbuilt storage, that is expandable via microSD card up to 64GB. It features a 5-megapixel rear camera with LED flash and there is a secondary 2-megapixel front-facing camera too. Samsung has improved the phone’s camera software with new features like ‘palm selfie’ and ‘tap to pick’ to increase ease of use.
The Samsung Galaxy J1 is powered by a 1850 mAh battery which the online retailer claims can give up to 10 hours of talk time on 3G networks. The Galaxy J1 offers standard connectivity options like Bluetooth, 3G, GPRS/ EDGE, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Micro-USB. The phone also features Samsung’s ultra power saving mode which can extend battery life when you are almost out of juice. The Galaxy J1 looks like the many other phones from Samsung with nothing new in terms of design. The phone is currently available in black colour only.
The Galaxy J1 is the latest entrant in the budget phone market in India. Samsung must be hoping that the Galaxy J1 increases their smartphone market share after reports stating that Micromax has become the number one smartphone manufacturer in the country. However, going by the price range and specs sheet we feel that other phones like the Moto E, Xiaomi Redmi and Micromax Yu Yureka offer better value for money than the Samsung Galxy J1.
