Look what we have here! Samsung is all set to launch its twin tablets, the Galaxy Tab 8.9 and the larger 10.1 inch version in India by June if we are to believe a recent Business Standard report. The news regarding the impending arrival of these gizmos was revealed by none other than Ranjit Yadav, country head at Samsung Mobile and IT India in an interview with the Business Standard. According to Ranjit, both the products are expected in June. The larger tablet, the 10.1 is expected to be priced at around Rs.35,000 ($789), while the Galaxy Tab 8.9 will retail for around 28,000 ($631).
He also revealed that currently, the Indian tablets space is very nascent with a little over 25,000 tablets sold per quarter. The official launch of the iPad 2 might just change that and in the months to follow, we have a virtual barrage of Android powered tablets ready for launch in India.
When asked about its mobile phones business he said that Samsung has long held the position of the second largest seller of phones in India with over 23% marketshare and is looking forward to increase its market share to around 40% by the end of this year.
The company has a range of phones for the India market ranging from the entry level Guru range to the high end Android powered devices (its believed that Samsung Galaxy S2 would make an entry soon as well). The mid range smartphone section is taken care of by Samsung’s own bada platform which has done well in India.
Ps: We aren’t sure if he meant the Galaxy Tab 10.1v or the 10.1 which is the upgraded version.
