We would have expected Samsung to throw in Bada OS for an entry level phone like this, but it seems that the Gem (SCH-i100) would have some Android love. The design is reminiscent of the good old Samsung Monte, though the spec is spiced up with an 800 MHz processor, a 3.2MP camera and Swype keyboard. Samsung’s Socialhub is integrated in the handset, and the Android version is Eclair (2.1). The onboard memory is 124MB (along with MicroSD card support). The Gem is said to be coming up on Verizon in US (yes its CDMA), however, no pricing / availability details seems to be out at the moment. Samsung has seen huge volumes with the Cory, Star and similar full touchscreens, but its 2011 and we wonder why an Android 2.1 over Bada?
We would guess thats more of a preference by Verizon!
What a piece of CRAP!!!!!!!!!!
When the F**K is Samsung going to learn that NOBODY wants a phone that’s running their favorite outdated piece-of-sh1t Android 2.1 OS?!?!?? Gingerbread is here, people have been clamoring for Froyo for months (and some are actually getting it), and Samsung releases a brand new phone in 2011 that’s running a slow buggy outdated version that nobody wants?!?!
STUPID!!!! Utterly moronically BRAIN-DEAD!
Hey, Samsung! Get a friggin’ clue!! Take Eclair and cram it up your asses!!!!!
I’d love one of these phones for free…so I can drop it in my toilet, pinch a big beefy one all over it, smash it with a broom handle, and flush it.
