The 3D wave is finally arriving in India, as a number of OEM’s are releasing their supposedly Smart “Idiot Boxes” one after the other, the latest in line being the tech giant Samsung. Though as it is always with Samsung, they bring something different and advanced to the table.
Yesterday, Samsung released its latest line of interactive Smart TV’s with 3D capabilities with a host of impressive features which includes voice and motion control, Smart Evolution and the innovative remote control in its flagship LED ES8000 and ES7500 series and the Plasma E8000 series in the Indian market. In the words of Mr. Raj Kumar Rishi, VP AV Business, it’s called Smart Interaction, Smart Content, and Smart Evolution.
Now talking about some of the impressive features that we came across in the flagship TV’s are:
Voice Control
Though, we have seen the feature in a lot of smartphones recently and are disappointed by its performance considering the problem with the Indian accent. The Samsung Smart TV’s seemed to understand the Indian accent much better during the demo of the television.
Motion / Gesture Control
Well, it’s about time that the OEM’s start manufacturing TV’s and devices with motion / gesture control and who better than Samsung to take the lead. First they did it with the Galaxy SIII and now a camera has been mounted on top of the flagship Smart TV’s and thus they can recognize human gestures and thus can be conveniently operated with the help of simple gestures once setup. Though, I must admit that it might take some time getting used to the same, as was quite evident when we tried our hands with the technology during the demo.
Smart Evolution
In today’s fast paced world when technology gets outdated every month, it’s difficult to stick to one device and not incur huge expenses while upgrading your devices. Well, the same is supposed to change with Samsung’s innovative Smart Evolution feature, which will allow you to upgrade your television in a cost effective manner. It’s done by installing a simple slot in the back of the television, which would be made available once Samsung upgrades its televisions with new technology and the same would be made available soon after.
AllShare Play
This feature by Samsung allows content to be shared across screens i.e. smartphones or tablets which can be viewed without any geographical barriers as the same is made available via the cloud. Family story is an added feature which allows a family to share photos and even post messages & chat in real time with other family members and friends.
Remote Control
Samsung’s Smart TV remote control is laced with a touch pad that allows you to quickly browse through the apps and menu options. Also included is a microphone which allow you to place voice command.
Besides, there are other important features like Face recognition, Samsung’s apps and free 3D content. Speaking of 3D Samsung uses active shutter glasses with their 3D TV’s which are available for roughly Rs. 3,000 apiece.
Samsung’s ES Series Smart TV’s which includes LED and Plasma TV’s are available in the price range of Rs 37,700 to Rs 273,000. And the EH series of LED TV’s of screen sizes between 26” to 46” are priced between Rs. 24,000 to Rs 94,900. Whereas, Samsung’s entire fleet of flat panel TV’s are priced in the range of Rs. 12,800 to Rs. 273,000.
