After a lot of talk and speculation, it is finally here. Samsung has officially released the Android 2.2 upgrade package for its bestselling Samsung Galaxy S smart phone. The device, which has been one of the hottest selling smart phones of the year, had grabbed the attention with its 4 inch Super AMOLED touch screen and 1 GHz processor. Samsung had been talking of upgrading it to the latest version of Android (the Galaxy S was released running on Android 2.1)for some weeks now, and now it has done so. According to the press release we have received, the upgrade – which can be installed via Samsung’s in-house software Kies and NOT through operators over the air (OTA)- will be first available “in the Nordic region and gradually rolled out to other European markets, Southeast Asia, the Middle East Asia, North America, Africa and the rest of the world.” Now, we do not know when that means in India, but we are keeping our eyes peeled and devices ready.
Among the improvements that the 2.2 upgrade will bring are voice-controlled GPS through Google Maps with Navigation, faster performance though JIT (Just in Time) compiler, Search in-browser, and support for Adobe Flash Player 10.1. However, the release does not mention two of Android 2.2’s most talked-about improvements – the ability to save apps on a memory card and the option to convert your device into a wi-fi hotspot. We just hope those are part of the package too. We will know more when we do get our hands on the upgrade. In the meantime, we would be more than delighted to hear from any of you who do get their devices upgraded.
Is there a 2.2 update on cards also fr samsung galaxy 5?
