When Samsung launched the I9003 Galaxy SL in India, they chose to rename it to Galaxy S LCD, to emphasize the fact that this phone has a Super LCD unlike the Super AMOLED display on the more expensive I9000 Galaxy S.
However, it has come to our attention that the phone has now been renamed to Galaxy S Plus. This change of nomenclature is a bit confusing because there already exists a phone called Galaxy S Plus abroad, which is actually an updated version of the Galaxy S that features a faster 1.4GHz Snapdragon processor compared to the 1GHz Hummingbird on the Galaxy S.
When we first came across the name Galaxy S Plus on the Samsung India website, we were under the impression that Samsung actually launched this new, faster version of the Galaxy S. However, one quick look at the specifications confirmed that this was actually the older Galaxy S LCD under a new name. The fact that the Galaxy S LCD is now missing from the site is further proof of the name change.
We wonder why Samsung has opted for this confusing change of name. Those not aware of Samsung’s phones abroad will think the Plus makes the Galaxy S Plus better than the Galaxy S, which it clearly isn’t. Those who know will think it is actually the faster 1.4GHz model.
We hope this is a mistake, and Samsung goes back to the older, less confusing name.
