While the Samsung smartphone juggernaut moves on, there might be some of us who might be thinking it is not really concentrating on the low end segment. Well Samsung seems to be in a mood to prove them all wrong. They have introduced a new line up of affordable handsets under the REX brand with prices ranging from Rs. 4280 to Rs. 6490.
The Samsung REX series consists of four devices; REX 90, REX 80, REX 70 and REX 60. Lets now take a quick look at the features of these handsets. We start with the Rex 60 which packs in a 7.1cm (2.8”) QVGA Display.This as expected is a dual SIM touchscreen handset loaded with Samsung’s proprietary TouchWiz UI and offers up to 8 customizable homescreens. The phone gets a 1.3 megapixel camera and boasts of a 15 hour talktime. It also comes preloaded with a lot of applications that include Facebook, Twitter, Opera Mini, 10 Full Version Gameloft Games, ChatON, Yahoo, GTalk & Facebook ChatFree Games, Music & Apps from Samsung App store. The phone also supports as many as 9 regional languages.
Next up is the Rex 70 which gets a 7.62cm (3”) capacitive QVGA Display and is also capable of Dual SIM operation. This one however gets hot swappable SIM cards. The UI again is the same Samsung TouchWiz UI that you see on their affordable line up. This one gets a slightly upgraded camera which can take images at 2 megapixels. This one offers up to 13 hours of talktime. The Rex 70 also comes with the same bunch of preloaded applications as mentioned earlier. This one however supports 13 regional languages.
Rex 80 is what we would be taking up next. This one seems to be similar to the Rex 70 when it comes to most features except that this one gets Wi-Fi and slightly better talktime. The number of supported languages also drop down to 9. Rest of the features are the same as that on the Rex 70.
Finally, we have the top of the line Rex 90 which gets an 8.89cm (3.5”) Capacitive HVGA Display. Like all other handsets in the Rex line up, this one too is dual SIM capable and runs Samsung’s TouchWiz UI and features hot swappable SIM cards.
There is a 3.2 megapixel camera at the back and support for Wi-Fi as well. This one offers upto 15hrs Talktime and supports 11 regional languages.
The REX 60, REX 70, REX 80 and REX 90 as mentioned earlier are all priced between Rs. 4280 and Rs. 6490. Also to be noted is that all of these handsets come bundled with a Tata Docomo offer that offers double data to consumers on normal data recharges until August 31st 2013.
