Sony Ericsson Xperia X8 Launched in India

Sony Ericsson has just days ago announced that it has started shipping its Xperia X8, Android smartphone. What we did not expect back then was an India launch so soon! Thats right ladies and gentlemen, the Xperia X8 has been launched in India.

The phone, which is positioned slightly below the Xperia X10 range (which includes the flagship Xperia X10, the X10 Mini and the Mini PRO) has been priced just under the Rs. 14k mark (Rs.13,990) to be precise.

The phone was already available in other Asian countries. Just to update you about the features on the X8, let me tell you about its 3.2 megapixel camera and support for Push email, Instant messaging, Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync support with Dataviz RoadSync, Picture messaging (MMS), Predictive text input. Note that the camera comes sans auto-focus.

The 3 inch display has a resolution of 320*480 pixels and. The phone comes with 128 MB of internal memory and supports memory expansion using microSD cards. There is a 3.5 mm jack as well. The video camera can only record videos in VGA resolution at 30 FPS.

The most valuable thing to note here is that the phone is currently shipping with Android 1.6 – which is two generations older than the latest Android version. Sony Ericsson has been terribly slow in bringing out updates to its Xperia Android phones – a fact you might want to consider before you rush out to get one.

Thankfully, Sony Ericsson seems to have priced this one sensibly. The price is expected to go south in the months to come.

So, would you be getting one?

  • Why would one consider buying X8 given that HTC Wildfire and Samsung Galaxy 3 (Apollo) are priced in the same range and has better features…. Will definitely give it a miss…..
