Just when you that you had seen it all and Sony has suffered enough from the hands of hackers, here comes once more such attack. While on previous occasions, the target was the PlayStation Network which was attacked multiple times in close succession, this time round it’s the turn of another Sony Subsidiary website – Sony Pictures. This time, a group that calls themselves Lulz Security has managed to sneak in to Sony Pictures’ website. They eventually ended up gaining access to over a million users’ personal details.
The new attacks raises even further questions regarding the kind of security measures taken by large corporations to safeguard sensitive personal details of users availing their services. According to Lulz Security, Sony had stored the users password details in a very easily viewable, text file. The attack method used to breach in to Sony Pictures’ was not a new technique and was a well know attack method. In fact, this method has been frequently used by hackers to siphon off data from websites with poor security measures in place. The successful attack on Sony Groups websites will lead to the company asking lots of questions to people handling Sony’s web operations.
While the claim of Lulz Security that they had managed to hack in to 1 million users is yet to be verified independently, many people have confirmed to the Associated Press that their details truly is out there on the web for everyone to see.
With the frequency of attacks on Sony increasing, the question being asked now is. “Which Sony Group website is the next target?” Any guesses?
