The first Sony (sans the ericsson) branded phones has started its journey to different parts of the world. On Wednesday, Sony started shipping out Xperia S smartphones globally, as reported on the company’s blog.
The blogpost, indicates that Sony will let the local telecom service providers, in individual markets, announce the details of the smartphone in terms of availability and pricing. Although, it fails to mention, exactly when and in which markets, the phones will be expected. Nonetheless, the phones will be in stores shortly.
The Sony Xperia S will feature a 4.3 inch scratch resistant TFT touchscreen with 720p display and will run on a 1.5 Ghz Qualcomm Dual Core processor. Some of the other features include a 12 megapixel camera with HD video recording, 1GB RAM, 32GB internal memory, 1,750mAh battery and Android 2.3 Gingerbread, which is expected to update to Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich in the second quarter of 2012.
In the Q4 of 2011, Sony Corp bought Ericsson out of the mobile venture for $1.5 billion, to better integrate its array of content that from the music label, movie studios and Playstation games. If all cards are played correctly by Sony, this could be their ticket to be at par with smartphone competitors like Samsung and Apple.
