Sony seems to be on a roll after its divorce from Ericsson. After coming up with the Xperia Z waterproof, Android smartphone at the CES, they have now gone official and revealed their newest tablet to the world. The device, known as the Tablet Z was rumored a few days ago. Soon after, Japanese carrier NTT DoCoMo gave a little clue that pointed towards the fact that the Tablet Z was indeed for real. A few days later, Sony has gone ahead and issued a press release unveiling the tablet.
To start with, the Tablet Z features a stylish design, totes a 10.1 inch display and is powered by Android 4.1. The display resolution is 1920×1200, and is also powered by Sony’s proprietary Mobile Bravia image-enhancement engine. Under the hood of the tablet is a quad-core Qualcomm chipset chugging at 1.5 Ghz. It is supplemented with 2GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and an 8-megapixel rear camera complete with backlit sensor. Powering all this is a 6000mAh battery. A slot for a microSD card is present as well and connectivity options are aplenty with the device fully supporting Wi-Fi, LTE, and NFC.
Design apart, what will strike you when you see this device in flesh would be it thickness-or rather the lack of it. At just 6.9mm, this is even thinner than the already thin iPad Mini. And lest we forget, this one just like the Xperia Z will be dust and watrproof! Beat that!
While the specifications ain’t top notch, the Tablet Z is once again showing off Sony’s true capabilities. All they need to do now is to price this thing (along with the Xperia Z) sensibly and set the sales charts on fire.
