Does Jelly Bean really taste that good?
Well, I own this Sony Xperia SL which I got earlier this year after much consideration. The phone initially came with Android 4.0 ICS which got a (much needed) firmware update to Android 4.1 Jelly Bean in the 1st week of July 2013. I was pretty much impressed by this new variety of Google sweet, especially in terms of its speed, butter smooth graphics and improved battery life. On the flip side though, I had also noticed that it had degraded the earlier version’s (ICS’s) amazing camera features and was somewhat buggy.
But hey, thats OK, right? Sony can always fix these nagging issues with a fresh new update, I thought. Ever since, I was really hoping that Sony would release the next update a little sooner.
And finally earlier this month, my much anticipated update for Jelly Bean with the much awaited bug fixes was out. Sony claimed it to be a major firmware update to Android 4.1.2 and claimed that it has removed all the major bugs and issues the initial build of Jelly Bean firmware had. Somehow I find it hard to agree to such claims, as I still see many of these bugs still troubling me.
Here’s how:
- Signal strength continues to have the same problem; it’s mostly weak and keeps dropping.
- Camera app taking a bit time to launch.
- HD & Full HD camera lag.
- 3D Panorama missing.
- Wi-Fi issue. (Even when there is strong signal, Signal constantly drops)
- Google Chrome has turned buggy; hangs a lot.
The New trouble:
- ‘Google Now’: Its the Google version of ‘Siri’ long pressing the Home button launches ‘Google Now’ earlier Pressing home button would launch Recent Apps and Shortcut apps. I find it pretty irritating as I have a habit of checking the Recent Apps frequently and Double Tap doesn’t always work.
- Overall performance of the phone has reduced; I clearly don’t see the talked about 60 fps processing speed of ‘Project Butter’ here.
Clearly, there seems to be quite a bunch of issues here. I am however hopeful you would fix these issues in your next update – in case you are planning to issue one, that is.
Are you a Xperia SL user as well? Did you face similar issue with the handset after the recent update? Do let us know!
