Think modding a car is fun? Well see this! Students of Moga Polytechnic College, Punjab (India) have invented a hack that lets local farmers control their tractors using a cellphone. Keeping aside the question if this thing is actually needed or not (its as good as asking if a real need for iPad exists or not), this thing is being pitched as something that would make farming ‘fun’ and save a lot of effort to the farmers. The functionality seems to be fairly simple with the only difference that they haven’t made this for use with pro phones like the iPhone but simple mobiles. Listening to the inventor speak on the video below it suggests to me that they are doing this over a phone call to a SIM card installed on the tractor hack (as he mentioned being able to control the device from another continent itself.) Video downstairs.
