While we count the days to the upcoming Apple event that would shed some official light (hopefully) on the entire tablet case. A lot of speculation about the technical specification and Apple’s game plan has just emerged (warning: take every bit with a pinch of salt). Strong bets are being placed on a bigger iPhone with a 5? display and a tablet with 7 – 9? screen or touchscreen mac.
Apple had acquired chip maker P.A. Semi some time back and it is expected that the technology housed herein would power handhelds some day. Talk of a multicore iPhone with a PA Semi chip is nothing new, and it is now being said that the Apple tablet chip is only designed by Apple and Samsung would manufacture the same. Apple is said to be on track to get “the most powerful, lowest-cost SoC in the industry” with its own chip designs. Wild!
I also heard somewhere that the Apple tablet would be called iTablet and not iSlate. However, the more salient factor is the concept behind the device and Apples REAL plan. Apple is known for creating alternate revenue models for its hardware. Just like the iPod got iTunes music store and the iPhone / iPod touch got the App Store; the upcoming tablet might well bring a whole new way of consuming digital content. This has spiked up the rumors of media companies negotiating with Apple on a possible tie up. However, it is believed that Apple is revealing minimum details to its prospect partners for the iTablet and the devices might well be launched the iPhone style with a January announcement and a June/July launch.
