The IFA event at Berlin has been jam packed with lots of manufacturers unvieling the new generation of Android devices. Looking at the wearable market a lot of smartphone makers are entering the segment. Asus, Samsung and Sony were some of tech giants that unveiled their wearables today.
Asus launched the ZenWatch which has a 1.63-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 320×320 pixels with a pixel density of 278PPI. It is powered by a Snapdragon 400 processor and has 512MB of RAM coupled with 4GB of internal storage. The watch runs a Zen UI skin on top of Android Wear OS. The watch has Bluetooth 4.0 and has an IP55 water resistant rating.
Sony has unvieled their third generation of smartwatch called the SmartWatch 3. The SmartWatch 3 runs on Android Wear and sports a 1.6-inch transreflective LCD screen with a resolution of 320×320 pixels. Like all Android Wear devices it also houses a Snapdragon 400 processor with 512MB of RAM. The device has a host of sensors with GPS and NFC being the first in an Android Wear. The SmartWatch 3 also comes with 4GB of internal memory and is IP68 certified, the highest for an Android Wear device till date. The device has a Micro USb port for charging instead of the charging cradles that the other devices use.
In addition to the SmartWatch 3, Sony also displayed the SmartBand Talk. It is the successor of the SmartBand and has the ability to do calls via the phone. It has a 1.4-inch e-ink display along with a speaker and mic on board.
Samsung already has a huge number of wearables in the market in various shapes and screen sizes. The Gear S is the newest wearable from the smartphone maker. The device has a 3G SIM slot and is capable of doing calls without a mobile phone. The device has a 2-inch Super AMOLED screen with a resolution of 480×360 pixel and is powered by a dual-core 1GHz processor. It is the biggest wearable launched by Samsung yet and runs on Tizen OS.
Looking at the active participation from various manufacturers, Android Wearables can very much be the next big thing.
