Truecaller, the online Caller ID for our phones has now launched a new app named Truedialer. It claims to be a smart dialer for your smart phone. The app is available for free on Android and Windows Phone.
A user using Truedialer will get automatic predictions of the contact he’s trying to call. The user will also be able to see the name and the profile photo of the individual or business beforehand. Truedialer does that by searching its huge database which it has acquired via Truecaller. It initially collected this data via deals with phonebook providers and third parties like Yelp and Twitter. Users also uploaded their contact books to freshen the information which showed up in their call logs. As the user types in numbers, the app searches both the user’s contact list and Truecaller’s database for autocomplete options. With the contacts synced to their social accounts and autocomplete options, Truedialer is clearly trying to imposter itself as a search engine for contacts in the dialer.
Apart from providing advanced search options, Truedialer also impresses us with its quick and easy to use interface. A user can swipe on the keyboard to switch between the numeric and alphabet keyboard. If a person intends to SMS a contact he can do it directly from the app by swiping the contact to the left. Swiping the contact to the right will give you details about them. Truedialer also incorporates a similar function which was of the original Truecaller app: While Truecaller tells you if an incoming call is a spammer, Truedialer will warn you too, if you’re dialing a dodgy number.
“Until now, phone dial pads have not truly improved since the feature phone days. With the same infrastructure that powers Truecaller, our ambition with Truedialer is to replace the phone’s phonebook app, and be invaluable to users, just as Truecaller has changed the way people receive calls and find contact information” said Nami Zarringhalam, co-founder and Chief Strategy Officer at Truecaller. Apart from being a convenient dialer, it will be interesting to see how people react to the app as some people may find it intruding their privacy.
Do you think the Truedialer app now makes the Truecaller app redundant?
