Twitter announced this Monday that it has acquired a start-up called Whisper Systems which develops security services for devices running Google’s Android platform.
Whisper Systems is a startup comprising of just two people, i.e. its founders Moxie Marlinspike and Stuart Anderson which works on securing mobile phone calls and text messages so that they can’t be hacked into by third parties such as the government or hackers in general.
Whisper System is well known in the tech security circles for their services, especially to human rights activists, which was used well utilized during the uprising in the Gulf.
Twitter has not yet announced how it is exactly going to make use of the startup they have acquired but have just acknowledged in a statement that the founders will be joining their team.
Though, after Twitter was pulled up by the Federal agency for the lapse in their security which had allowed hackers unauthorized admin control of twitter, which was being used by them to send across spams to the users and even access to users personal information including private tweets.
So we would guess that Whisper’s major role would be revolving around the security of the Twitter’s ecosystem.
