It is no less than Superman, claims Vodafone. The 3G service from Vodafone has begun in Delhi (we just got a call from Vodafone to confirm that), but the damper is it will only be available in south and central Delhi, and Gurgaon, with other regions being covered later. The good thing is that as of now, there are no activation charges (you just need to call the call centre) and that Vodafone is offering 3G speed browsing and Live TV, although the much-hyped popular video calling facility is yet to be made available. The bad is that these come at a staggering cost. The rates are Rs10 paise per 10KB which does not sound like much, but stretch that and it works out to be Rs 10 per MB and Rs 10,000 per GB. So clearly those who use a lot of data on their devices should be ready to shell out about the cost of a new handset every month to enjoy Vodafone’s 3G!
The Vodafone call centre executive we talked to said that there were no other 3G plans as yet. We are hoping some will come around soon, as the current one is frankly unaffordable. Who said Superman was cheap? Do let us know if you have heard of other Vodafone plans in your city – we would love to read about them.
I think thats the rate if you want the pay as you go plan. When I called 116, they told me that if I already have Voda LIVE (WAP) or Vodafone Mobile Office (GPRS), it gets automatically upgraded to 3G speed with NO EXTRA CHARGE!! I found this too good to be true and immediately asked for an upgrade by SMSing 3G to 111 as instructed.
I get a reply: Your Handset is not supported!! Both on LG Optimus One (Android 2.2) and Dell Venue Pro (WinMo7) both of which happily use Reliance 3G.
try smsing GO 3G or ACT 3G to 111…
Everyone on non-nokia platform is getting the same response. As per the confirmations I got on twitter, the settings for 3G are the same as vodafone Connect.
Will be trying it out once my service is activated.
And don’t bother going to the Vodafone store. They have 3G plastered all over the store – inside and outside but when I spoke to the customer care representative at the store, he told me that 3G isn’t yet launched and it is impossible that anyone is using 3G on vodafone. They have no clue.
Another couple of years before 3G tariffs become affordable…operators looking to recover the insane license fees they paid, quickly!
@vm85 then i guess its the wrong way of recovering considering all data consumed on 3g will be more 1 MB a live tv looks nearly impossible to spend on!
My room mate went to Vodafone store here in Delhi he was told 3G unlimited for Rs 500 for one month on postpaid connection only if you take it right now. He bought a postpaid connection for Rs 198 which would give him 3 GB for 30 days. I guess this is the most affordable plan i have seen in 3G so far.
I am also using the Rs 198 Plan and its only for browsing the internet. For downloading they are charging seprately.
well am using vodafone 3g without any extra charge… atleast for the present
I opted for vodafone 3G. It sucks pals.. I actvtd it fo no extra cost.. M using Nokia E-5. I thot as ad shows it”l b as fast as d superman, bt it totally disappointed me. There was no change in data speed. I used to sit for hours to get a video streamed online.. Nw ive de-actvtd it.
Well I m happy, it gives me almost 3mbps browsing on SE Xperia for just Rs.198/3GB…….. this is cheapest people…… Airtel sucks Rs.11/10MB…… Sunil Bharti must be using a Vodafone….. lol
