WhatsApp which recently crossed a 70 million mark of active users in India has a new update! WhatsApp which shows you two ticks if your message is delivered to the recipient, now turns them into blue if the person has read the message. In a group chat or a broadcast message, the tick marks will turn blue only if all your participants have read the message. This feature is similar to the BBM messenger app which showed a tick with ‘R’ when a person reads your message.
One can also check the time when the message was read through the message info screen.
The message info screen displays the details of when your message was delivered and then read by the recipient. You can access the message screen by opening the chat with the contact or group. Select your sent message and tap .
The update has been done on-air and is available for Android, iOS and Windows. If you are unable to see the blue ticks for a particular chat it may be because the person is using an outdated version of it.
WhatsApp also has plans to introduce free voice calling services. The engineers of WhatsApp are improvising this feature so it can be accessible in areas with poor network or EDGE coverage. It plans to roll out this feature next year.
Update: In Mid-December, WhatsApp gave it’s users the settings to turn read receipts off.
