While we are gearing up for the Microsoft Build event scheduled to happen later this week at California where juicier details pertaining to Microsoft’s Windows 8 are expected to be announced, eagle eyed folks over at Toms Hardware has posted a picture of what they say is the first screenshot of how the Windows 8 start menu (and Taskbar) would look like.
The Start Menu from what we make of the picture seems to have been simplified a lot with virtually nothing left there. People who have seen it so far seems to have mixed reactions about this one – although clearly, it’s too early to judge the functionality of this one based on just one screenshot.
That said, what is pertinent to note is that fact that Microsoft is trying to position Windows 8 as an OS that would feel comfortable on a tablet as it would on a full-fledged PC. You might be already aware as to how miserably Windows 7 failed to become a tablet OS, coming out at a time when tablet optimized OS’es like Honeycomb and iOS fast became the OS of choice for these handhelds. That might just change with Windows 8 because Microsoft is reportedly working on a port that would allow apps written for Windows Phone 7 to work seamlessly on Windows 8, as well.
Anyway, the good news for Microsoft (and Windows 8) is that the likes of Intel and Samsung – at least for the time being seems committed to bringing chips and tablets that would use Windows 8 – whenever the OS becomes available commercially. In the meantime, go ahead and drool over at the leaked image (assuming you are a Microsoft Windows fanboy).
