Now, this sure is a fascinating bit of news we have here. If we are to believe nVidia’s CEO Jen Hsun Huang, Microsoft’s soon to be released Windows 8 Operating System is likely to feature native support for running Windows Phone applications.
Now, this sure would be excellent news for all those developers working on Windows Phone 7 apps. While the platform hasn’t actually taken off (yet), developer response to it had been accomplished with the Windows Marketplace recently crossing the 30,000 mark when it came to the sheer number of applications available for download. True, this is a far cry from the numbers Android and iOS platforms boast of – but the main thing is, Microsoft has managed to keep developers interested in the platform.
Going by Mr. Huang’s statements, if it does turn out to be true, this would mean the opening of a hitherto untapped avenue for WP7 developers. The Apps they design can be potentially scaled for larger screened devices and be used on Windows 8 powered tablet PC’s and notebooks. WP7 apps are developed mostly on Microsoft’s Silverlight and XNA environments and in the future could use HTML 5.
From what you and I have seen of the WP7 user interface, it can be easily scaled to fit on to a device with a larger display, and now we are beginning to wonder if Microsoft had originally planned to sort of converge the apps environment for mobiles and desktops – an idea which might just turn out to be revolutionary!
