Facebook has updated its official Windows Phone 7 with no visible features. Apparently, the only visible change was that the Refresh setting has been replaced with Cache Expiration which is set at 10 minutes. The Facebook App for WP7 has been updated to version 1.5 but still it has number of features missing. One of such features is notifications which is quite surprising since the App is meant for one of the ‘immersive’ smartphone operating systems.
Matthijs Hoekstra, Developer Evangelist for Windows Phone 7 development, Microsoft (Netherlands), shared via his Twitter account that notifications for Windows Phone 7 would come in the form of an App. Mattijs said : what i meant is that ‘an’ app is coming for that, not sure about the official facebook app. It’s not clear whether Facebook App will get Notifications sooner or later. But for Windows Phone 7, notifications might come through some App. At the recent MIX11 conference in Las Vegas, CVP for Windows Phone Program, Joe Belfiore didn’t demonstrate about the notification system. However, he did mention about deeper integration of the apps to make the best of the “Live Tiles” interface.
Notifications would be one unique feature where Windows Phone 7 can grab the opportunity and make it seriously interesting for users. Else its fate would be just like that with MobileNotifier for iOS. Some developer will have to take up the challenge an develop it correctly.
